Sammy and Perky

Sammy & Perky In the fall Sammy meets a family of gray squirrels; the young ones named Romper and Scurry. The squirrels accept Sammy, horn and all, as their friend. One day when he is going to play with the squirrels, Sammy meets a little red squirrel that was all alone. He finds out that Romper and Scurry are bullying the red squirrel because she is different. Sammy names the little red squirrel Perky. He then goes to explain to Romper and Scurry that bullying is wrong. Romper and Scurry apologize to the red squirrel. They take her to meet their mom and dad. Everyone gets along well and the parents decide to give Perky, the little red squirrel, a permanent home. Romper and Scurry then have a little sister and Perky has found a loving home.

About the Author

Alyce was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1951. From 1951 to 1953, Alyce and her brother, Henry, were in foster care and in an orphanage.

Alyce and Henry were adopted in 1953 and moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. At the age of thirty Alyce found out that she had a sister, seven half-sisters and one half-brother. The complete extended family was brought together with a reunion planned by her adoptive parents, Henry and Mabel Schneider of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in the early 1980s.

Throughout her life, Alyce has lived in various cities in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She now lives in Springtown, Texas with her husband Rich, on a secluded six acres. Her hobbies are oil painting, working with her animals, gardening, and spending time with Rich. Alyce has been writing since the early 1970s. her writing come mostly from personal life experiences with hopes of inspiring and perhaps even helping others.
